On behalf of Earth Rising, Inc., I would like to advise all of a very special event that is crossing America and currently plans to stay at the Gaea Retreat Center.
“The Longest Walk 2 is spiritual and historical walk across America for education awareness to American and World Communities about the concerns of American Indian People. We walk for youth, peace, justice, healing and the environment. We invite all people of all ages, nations, races and faiths to join us in the walk with the mission: All Life is Sacred, Protect Mother Earth.”
On May 1, 2008, the individuals that began in San Francisco February 11 taking the northern route to Washington, DC plan to spend the evening at the Gaea Retreat Center. At the present, the Longest Walk 2 organizing committee has a donation of dinner for them while at Gaea which will be served in the dining hall. It is yet to be determined if the dinner will be cooked in the kitchen or prepared offsite and brought in. I and a couple other individuals will be working to secure donations to prepare a breakfast very early Friday May 2, 2008 as the walkers need to be back on their route no later than 7 am at this time, possibly earlier as discussions continue with the Missouri scheduled events. At this time, it is certain that the walkers will have a very long day May 1st and need some rest, but we do plan to have a fire at the main fire circle and hope some of our drummers can be there.
In 1778 the historical walkers accomplished much in convincing Congress to remember our heritage and enact legislation to protect native to the lands. Today, they walk in support of the land of this great nation and it’s preservation. ERI is please to provide the Gaea Retreat Center to those making this valiant effort to cross America on the anniversary of this historical event. Part of Our mission statement is to support ecologically sound practices and land and wildlife conservation in the belief that the Earth and all life are interrelated and interdependent, and that respect for all life is a Universal Mandate. As these dedicated walkers cross America on the 30th anniversary of the original Longest Walk, Gaea welcomes them to our area and certainly hopes the walkers know the land will welcome the energy of the walkers.
If you would like to research this historical event further, join the walk for a day or two, here are a few links.
