The brainstorming meeting for LBLD is this Saturday at Gaea at 7pm!
The theme for LBLD is Peter Pan.
There has never been a set in stone way that the themes for LBLD are chosen. It's been done by poll, it's also been preselected by the board, or by the lbld committee, or by one of the main special guests. Alot of different things have been tried... some with great results. This year, the board has selected the theme, and the LBLD group that brainstorms will come up with 3 themes that will be on a poll at this years LBLD registration to vote for next years theme. This way, the actual participants that arrive and are a part of LBLD decide the theme for next year.
There are alot of great ideas for how to incorporate the theme of Peter Pan. We are confident that it'll be some of the most fun and a great way to get ALOT of people involved with it. Several of the camps have agreed to dress up and mock pretend to be part of the culture and lore of peter pan. From the Indians, to Pirates, to Lost Boys, etc!
Come on out to the meeting and help brainstorm your ideas for things we can do at fest to incorporate the theme and ensure everyone has an awesome time!!!
Following the meeting, we will have a screening of Peter Pan the cartoon disney version. To help generate more ideas and get everyone excited for this year!
Online registration will be turning on very soon. I want to make a few adjustments to it to make it a bit smoother. The system being used for HSA, ED and LBLD will really help to stream line it and make it alot more user friendly :)
I'd also like to get two mole hills out of the way to start with.
FIRST)
Earth Day is a FAMILY FRIENDLY event! This seems to have missed the point with quite a few people this year. :( :(
LBLD is our ADULT ONLY (18+) event! These are completely different events and behaviors should be molded to what is appropriate for either event.
Disclaimer: Please keep in mind that the events and occurances of LBLD are not a representation of every day activites at the Gaea Retreat Center and should not be confused with what occurs at Gaea during non-exclusive events.
SECOND)
As a performer with the Sonic Sidhe Tribe, it is a second job to me. Anyone who has been a performer or worked with a group either musical or troupe knows that you get out of it, what you put into it. The Kansas City Renaissance Festival is one of the times where the tribe starts to almost break even. It's one of the few times we can walk away with a few bucks in our pocket. Labor Day weekend is the opening weekend for the festival. It is imperative and unavoidable that I must be in attendance for that. Due to this second job (which is income and food for my table), I'll be out for the evenings of LBLD. I'll arrive about dusk and will stay the night on Saturday and Sunday night. Participating in the activites and assisting with keeping the peace. This will allow me to be out there during the peak times of the event. As I am President of the Earth Rising Board of Directors, I will work to balance the responsibilities I have to the best of my ability and look forward to seeing everyone for an awesome LBLD!
We had 373 people last year and raised over $20,000 for Gaea!
This is an important year for us. We just passed the landmark of having only 50 land payments to go towards our payoff in 2013 and by the end of this year I believe we will be under $100,000 left on the mortgage!!
