Okay, yeah, I know I love getting AWAY from the hassle of technology for a few days out at Gaea. I secretly love that my cell phone will only work if I stand on the roof of my car at the high point out in the field.

I'll spare the story, but where is the nearest place with free WiFi near Gaea? I'm guessing some place in Tongie, like the public library. Anybody know for sure? I'd even settle for some place that needs to charge me. I know lots of places in Lawrence that have free WiFi (the entire downtown, actually). But I'd rather not make the half hour drive if there's a closer open WiFi nearer to Gaea.

Thanks!!

The closest place for Internet access, including WiFi, is the Tonganoxie Public Library, 303 S. Bury, Tonganoxie, KS 66086. 913-845-3281. Hours 9-8 Mon. - Thur., 9-5 Fri., 9-3 Sat. (http://www.tonganoxielibrary.org/)

The Internet (desktop and WiFi) is free to all Tonganoxie residents. Non-Tonganoxie folks can get access to library computers and the Internet by asking the librarian for a free temporary "guest account", the way I used it in 2006.

I just called the Tonganoxie Public Library, and they say that you don't need a guest account to use your own laptop with their WiFi service. Just bring in your WiFi-enabled laptop and connect up to their WiFi service, no access code needed. Unlike the regular Internet computers, WiFi access is unfiltered, though be sure not to violate their Internet rules anyway (http://files.tonganoxielibrary.org/InternetPolicy.PDF).
