A quick up date about the conditions at the Gaea Retreat Center and activities that were scheduled for this weekend.
Power is still out at camp and now the phone line is not working. There is no set timetable for either to be fixed as both companies are overwhelmed with problems from the ice storm earlier in the week which will only be compounded by the snow that is on the way.
As a result of these factors, all activities planned this weekend have been cancelled. This includes Yule, plans to move some dirt around and the Cabin Sponsors meeting. There will be a Yule celebration next Saturday with potluck to follow, however, this will be held in the Dining Hall due to a prior commitment in the Main hall. Please remember the Dining hall is not heated, but a portable propane heater and if electricity is back on, portable electric heaters will provide some relief from the cold.
If you have tried to contact the caretakers, either by e-mail or phone, they are not ignoring you; they are simply unable to access either at this time. If you need something immediately, you can e-mail morris at campgaea.org.
Rest assured our caretakers are warm and prepared for such events. Their cabin is heated by propane so they at least are able to stay warm. I will be visiting them tomorrow, delivering a couple of surprises to guide them through this (wine, cheese and crackers sounded good;)). If you would like, send your notes and wishes for them and I will pass them along. Please note that I will not be able to access the above e-mail address most of the day tomorrow as I will be at Gaea.
Just a reminder, the road to the north cabins and ridge is still closed as it is basically not drivable for most vehicles.
